荷东的全称是 Hollywood East Star Trax - 东方好莱坞明星舞会。
荷东的发源地在香港，其实是香港一家 Disco 舞厅的名称。这家 Disco 舞厅的 DJ 们将欧美的流行舞曲重新混音 (Remix) 后播放，没有想到反响出奇的好。迅速成为流行时尚。

从 1987 年开始，香港 FACE （飞时） 唱片公司授权中国唱片总公司广州分公司发行一系列的荷东舞曲，也就是《Hollywood East Star Trax - 东方好莱坞明星舞会》。

从 1987 年开始，荷东总共发行了 10 年。包括了荷东 1-10，还有串烧版 1 和 2。

荷东中的歌曲，基本没有原唱作品，都为翻唱。最经典的荷东是荷东的前三张和第九张，选择的多是欧洲的舞曲，尤其以意大利的 Italo Disco 为主。
其他的很多张中有很多欧美流行歌曲凑数，不能算是 Disco。
